What to Expect on Sunday Morning
Here’s a helpful list of what you can expect to experience when you visit on Sunday morning from when you pull into the parking lot, getting around the church, following along in worship, and the all-important coffee and tea.
You’ll find us at 1 West Ridge Road on Skidaway Island, Savannah, Ga. 31411. (912-598-1188) (Across West Ridge near the Publix Store)
We have ample parking but have reserved guest parking spots for you to the right as you drive in.
When you enter the church through the main entrance, you’ll enter the narthex. You’ll see people milling about, smiling, shaking hands, talking, and maybe sharing a hug or two. Our rotating message/signup kiosk will give you a glimpse about what is happening at Messiah. Bathrooms are down the hall to your left.
We worship at 9:00 am on Sunday. Messiah is a relaxed, casual and friendly atmosphere, so make yourself at home. Worship happens in the main sanctuary, where you can sit anywhere. Our service includes readings from the Bible and a message from our pastor. Everything you need to follow along with the worship service is clearly laid out in our weekly bulletin. Large print versions are available by asking an usher. We celebrate Communion on the 1st, 3rdSunday. At times we commune at the rail, other times we commune by Intinction. Everyone is welcome to receive Communion.
Nursery care is available for children up to age 6. Our nursery is located down the hall to the left, past the bathrooms and then will be on your right. We welcome children of all ages to the service. We have busy bags, handouts and children’s reading books to help make their experience a positive. You’ll also see there are BEARS sitting in the pews. Children and Adults too, are welcome to take a bear home and be sure to read the tag.
Sunday school is offered most Sundays for Adults, Youth and Children and begins at 10:20 after the coffee time in the Fellowship Hall. The normal focus is study on a part of the Bible, but we do offer special topic presentations from time to time. Most recently we offered “My Neighbor is a Muslim” as a 6 week study and a Lenten study of the Psalms.
During Worship, we sing hymns, which are accompanied by organ or our famous piano and the choir. Special musical ensembles, including our kids choir, handbells, women’s choir, men’s choir or the Chancel Choir, sing at the service through the year.
Sharing the Peace
During worship, we have greeting time of “sharing the peace.” We will introduce ourselves to new members or visitors who are sitting around us, as well as greet long time members of the church with a handshake.
To learn more about Messiah or if you have an interest in joining our fellowship, you may call Pastor Talsness at the church office.
And did we Mention Coffee?
There’s no need to rush off after the service. We have good ole Lutheran Coffee and Sweets in the Fellowship Hall after worship in a time of casual friendship. It’s the hottest place for sports news, golf game talk, what’s happening in Savannah, as well as our church life activities.
Messiah is here for life events for our members (and others). Learn more about what Baptism, Weddings and Funerals look like at Messiah.
